Dartmouth officer saves woman from burning car
DARTMOUTH, MA – While on patrol on Monday, December 30, 2019, Officer Colby Cusson observed a vehicle on fire in the median on State Road near Applebee’s.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Cusson observed that the female driver was still seated inside.
After removing her from the vehicle, Officer Cusson situated the female a safe distance away from the fire, where both he and Officer Alec Grant then rendered medical aid to her.
The fire was subsequently extinguished by members of the Dartmouth Fire Department, and the female was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital to be evaluated.
During the investigation which followed, it appears as if the vehicle left the roadway approximately 150’ prior to coming to a position of final rest.
As the vehicle was not properly registered and insured, it was towed from the scene, and the female operator was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating after revocation of registration, and failure to stay within marked lanes.
As there were also some concern(s) regarding the female’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, a Request for Immediate Threat License Suspension/Revocation form was also filed with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
