Crews in Freetown respond to car fires as over two dozen vehicles go up in flames, 100 threatened

Over two dozen cars went up in flames late Saturday in a fire that threatened approximately 100 vehicles.

Just before 11:00 p.m. the Freetown Fire Department received a call for a “Brush Fire” on South Main Street. It was 50 degrees and pouring rain so those responding Immediately knew It was something other than a brush fire.

Engine 3 and Car 2 arrived to find multiple Vehicles burning in the Copart Auto Auction complex at 170 S. Main Street. At the time of arrival, Car 2 estimated 15-20 vehicles involved with an additional 100 threatened.

A response from Station 2 was requested bringing all available Freetown Firefighters to the scene. Initial arriving crews were able to prevent further extension into the remaining vehicles with 2 hand lines while sufficient water supply was established to extinguish the remaining fire.

Resources included Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Tanker 2, Rescue 2, Car 2 And Car 1.

The incident involved a total of 30 Vehicles once a proper count could be taken.

The fire is under investigation.
