Crash on I-95 involving three motorcycles, SUV turns fatal
Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, states that one motorcycle operator died and two others were injured in a crash that occurred on Interstate 95 North in Warwick last night.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. when two motorcycles collided with an SUV while approaching the exit ramp for Interstate 295.
The operator of the first motorcycle, identified as Dervi Pena, 34, of 85 Andem St., Providence, was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact. He was transported to Kent Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The operator of the second motorcycle was taken to Kent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A third motorcycle crashed when the operator tried to avoid the collision. He also was taken to Kent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Rhode Island State Police Wickford Barracks, the Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
