Corpus Christi procession to return through the streets of Fall River
FALL RIVER – Fr. Edward A. Murphy, Chaplain of St. Anne Shrine of Fall River, has announced the return of the traditional Feast of Corpus Christi procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of Fall River on Sunday, June 11 starting at 2:00 p.m. from the steps of the landmark St. Anne Church on Middle Street in the city.
During this feast, the Church takes the Lord to the streets, holding a monstrance with the Eucharist enclosed for all to see.
According to Bryan Boyle from the Shrine, this year, in support of the Church’s desire to increase devotion to the Eucharist, the Shrine, with the support and cooperation with the Catholic Community of Central Fall River, will expand the procession route which will begin on the front steps of St. Anne, and conclude at the diocesan Cathedral for Benediction at the conclusion of the procession.
The Shrine is inviting all parishioners whose parishes may not be holding a local procession to join with the Central Fall River community.
UPDATE: Courtesy of Bryan Boyle, “due to manpower shortages, the Fall River Police Department was unable to approve the procession permit for the Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday June 11. However, the Shrine will still hold our annual procession around the shrine grounds in a simpler fashion. This change will not affect the celebration of Forty Hours that will occur June 9-11. Parish groups and individuals are invited to participate in this celebration honoring our Eucharistic Lord, this year dedicated to the National Eucharistic Revival.”
