Community Yard Sale to benefit devastated Puerto Rican families

For some, it has proven difficult to find a way to assist victims of the recent hurricanes in Puerto Rico. Material donations are problematic as infrastructure damage has caused logistical issues preventing supplies from being unloaded. While cash donations are welcome, many of us do not have the means to assist in that capacity. Plymouth’s Sean Fernando hopes the Fall River Community Yard Sale he is organizing might provide some relief.

The event is being held on Saturday, October 21 from 10am-4pm at the top of President Avenue in Fall River (in the parking lot between Newport Creamery and People’s Liquor.) It is being hosted by the Fall River Marriott CEC Customer Engagement Center, with proceeds being donated directly to United for Puerto Rico. (unidosporpuertorico.com/en)

Fernando, a Marriot TakeCare Coach, has been tasked with arranging the event and has been working diligently to coordinate donations. “We have donations and volunteers from both associates and leadership in our center. A significant number of employees in our office have family and friends impacted, so the cause was brought up by many people,” said Fernando of the personal responsibility the local Marriott team feels toward the project.

“One of our core company values is maintaining a positive presence in our community and the world. Those items you keep moving to a different shelf? They might buy someone medical supplies or a blanket. Let’s make a difference in someone’s life.”

For anyone attending the event on Saturday, October 21 (10am – 4pm) there is already a wide variety of items to be sold but there is still time to collect more. Some of the items already donated include books, baby clothes, strollers, collectibles, designer purses and more.

If anyone would like to donate products and goods to be sold at the event, you can bring them to the Newport Creamery parking lot (1670 President Ave) while they are setting up at 9am on Saturday, the 21st.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Sean at Sean.Fernando@Marriott.com.
