Collision between Fall River police cruiser and juvenile bicyclist causes minor injury

A juvenile riding a bike appeared to suffer a minor injury after contact with a police cruiser.

According to Deputy Chief Barden Castro, at approximately 8:30 p.m. a police cruiser was involved in a collision with a juvenile who was riding a bicycle, which did not have lighting or reflectors, on the sidewalk heading southbound, against traffic, on the east side of Plymouth Ave.  The police car, which was not being operated in an emergency fashion, was turning left from southbound Plymouth Ave. to eastbound Warren St.

As the police car entered Warren Street, the operator saw the bicyclist and braked abruptly.  However, Castro stated that the report indicates that the rear peg of the bike struck the push-bar of the cruiser causing the bicyclist to fall. 

The juvenile complained of leg pain, however, both he and his parent declined medical attention.

A police sergeant responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, document the incident, and render a finding.  According to Castro, the case will ultimately be reviewed by the Office of Professional Standards to ensure that proper department policy was followed.
