FALL RIVER, MA- The City of Fall River is set to commemorate Purple Heart Day, honoring the valor and sacrifice of those who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal. This special day recognizes the extraordinary bravery and service of our nation’s heroes, including many who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Purple Heart Day is an opportunity for the community to pay tribute to the men and women who have received this distinguished honor, which is awarded to service members who have been wounded or killed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Established by General George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart has a storied history, evolving into the medal we recognize today. It is a symbol of the profound sacrifices made by those who defended our freedom.

This year, the City of Fall River will host a ceremony at Fall River Government Center, Fall River Room, Sixth Floor, on Wednesday, August 7th at 1:00 p.m. The event will include a moment of silence for the fallen, and remarks from local dignitaries and veterans. The City invites all residents to honor and remember the brave souls who have earned this medal.

“Purple Heart Day is a time for us to reflect on the incredible courage and dedication of our service members,” says Paul Coogan, Mayor of Fall River. “It is an honor to pay tribute to those who have been wounded or have lost their lives while serving our country. Their sacrifice is a testament to the highest ideals of heroism and duty.”

The City of Fall River encourage everyone to participate in this meaningful observance and express their gratitude to the Purple Heart recipients and their families. Their contributions are a vital part of our nation’s history and serve as a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom.
