The City of Fall River celebrated the recent renovations of two City Parks in the Flint with back-to-back rededication ceremonies and a community event on Monday.

The Desmarais Playground completed renovations to its playground and basketball court in late fall of 2021, but cold weather delayed the ribbon cutting ceremony until this year.

The Cathy Assad Tot Lot, originally dedicated in Cathy Assad’s name on August 29th of 2014, concluded renovations in June of 2022. Renovations to the Cathy Assad Tot Lot included improvements to the playground, a complete remodel of the basketball court and the addition of a splash pad.

Members of the Desmarais and Assad families were present to celebrate the renovations.

Several dignitaries were also in attendance including State Rep Carole Fiola, Mayor Paul Coogan, City Councilor Linda Pereira, Police Chief Paul Gauvin and members of the Fall River Parks Board.

A “Fun in the Flint” event took place in both parks simultaneously and featured activities and giveaways from community partners including Greater Fall River Re-Creation, the Fall River Public Library, Angels Anonymous Food Pantry, Riva Rocks and the Trustees of Reservations.
