City hosting Second Annual Fall River Pride Festival this weekend
The Fall River Pride Committee will be hosting the “Second Annual Fall River Pride Festival,” in honor of June being PRIDE month. The festival will run from 12pm-4pm, at Fall River’s Government Center on Sunday, June 27th, 2021. According to the committee, the festival will include a live DJ playing music, as well as an age appropriate drag show and performances by local members of the LGBT+ community. The FRPC has also organized Raffles, Giveaways, Games, Prizes, Face Painting, Chalk Art, and a Photo Booth, as well as food trucks on site and demonstrations and resources from numerous businesses in and around Fall River.
“Our theme this year is ‘Partners in Pride’, because I think now more than ever we need to collaborate across all of the agencies, and all of the people in our city who are doing such amazing things, from youth development, to mental health counseling, to community support and empowerment, we really are quite a force…” said Co-founder of Fall River Pride Committee, Sean Connell, “and I just want people to remember, that it’s not just a celebration, but it’s also a remembrance and a protest. We talk about ‘education’ and that’s something that we need to continue to do, to shed light on all of this. I hear a lot of ‘LGBTQIA plus plus plus’, and all of those letters and pluses are not just alphabet soup. Those are people with identities. When we think about gender and we think about sexuality, it’s not just about sex. It’s about how we view our bodies, how we have relationships with our bodies, how we form relationships with other people, and how we form relationships with the community.”
According to the Fall River Pride Committee, Fall River’s “Partners in Pride” Festival is a family friendly event and is FREE to attend. They will be featuring many local talents like The Silver City DJ, their headlining drag performer, Lady Sabrina, as well as numerous local businesses and organizations showing their support for the LGBT+ community. The event will take place rain or shine.
The Fall River Pride Committee will also be accepting donations to help fund future PRIDE events, as well as other LGBT+ events held within the city.
