Child seriously injured after being struck by truck in East Bridgewater

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Scott Allen and Fire Chief Timothy Harhen report that the East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to Route 106 this afternoon after a teenage boy was hit by a truck.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., police and firefighters responded to the area of 125 West Street (Route 106) and Church Avenue for a report of a crash involving a truck and a 14-year-old. Upon arrival, police learned that the 14-year-old East Bridgewater boy was riding a bicycle when he came out from behind a van and attempted to cross Route 106.

The teenager, who was unaccompanied at the time, was hit by a Honda Ridgeline truck traveling west on Route 106, and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by medical helicopter to Mass General Hospital.

The driver of the truck, a 64-year-old West Bridgewater man, remained on scene.

Part of Route 106, near Route 18, was temporarily closed as police investigated the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by East Bridgewater Police.
