Champion of Fall River environmental and community projects, Alfred Lima passes away
A Fall River man who served the city in numerous capacities throughout the years has passed away.
According to a social media post by Dave Dennis, Alfred Lima died Tuesday evening.
“Al will be remembered as a kind, generous, and selfless friend and a remarkable and outstanding community leader. Al gave countless hours of his time and talent as an urban planner to improving Fall River. The Alfred J. Lima Quequechan River Rail Trail stands in memorial as one of Al’s considerable contributions to our city and region. Al’s modesty belied his efforts in improving the quality of life in our city that we see and experience every day in his body of work and know it will endure as his legacy. Al, you lived a good and worthy life. From a grateful city, thank you. You were a treasure. Rest peacefully!”
Lima was a Fall River native who was involved in several community organizations over the years. Especially when it involved a cause that helped preserve or enhance the city’s beauty.
A city planner for many years, Lima was an artist, wrote several books, and was a champion for local environmental causes including the closure of the Somerset plant and the effort to halt the LNG terminal.
