Cause of death released for sudden passing of Massachusetts police officer, services announced

The Boston Police Department announced last week the passing of one of their own just a year and a half after his police officer brother died.

Active-duty Boston Police Officer Brian MacLean was a 17-year veteran of the BPD who served admirably in a number of assignments including: B-3, C-6, B-2, D-4, E-18, Operations and Licensing during his career before dying suddenly.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, the 49-year-old MacLean passed away unexpectedly due to an accidental fall while out with his son.

Boston Police issued the following statement after MacLean’s passing.

“Brian will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues here at the Boston Police Department as we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this tremendously sad and difficult time.”

On April 6th, 2022, active-duty Boston Police Officer Robert J. MacLean died suddenly, the brother of Brian.

Officer Robert MacLean was a 16-year veteran of the BPD who served in several different assignments through the course of his career.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Brian in Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Thursday September 14th at 10:00 am. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visiting hours will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills, Wednesday, September 13th 4-8 PM.
