Brockton man killed after being struck by ice cream truck
Massachusetts State Police along with Brockton Police are investigating after a man was killed when he was struck by an ice cream truck last night, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 6:44 p.m. last night, Brockton Police received a 911 call reporting a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of North Main Street and Huntington Street. Upon arrival, first responders observed a male who had been struck by a motor vehicle suffering from serious injuries. The male victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 54-year-old Joao Fernandes of Brockton. The operator of the motor vehicle, a “Mel’s” ice cream truck, stopped at the scene and has yet to be identified.
The investigation is ongoing by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Brockton Police.
