A motor vehicle stop on Grove Street in Brockton last night led to the arrest of a man on gun and drug charges.

At about 6:45 p.m., members of the Troop D Community Action team stopped a 2016 Ford Explorer for motor vehicle violations. As the troopers approached the vehicle, and during their contact with the operator, they observed him to repeatedly make furtive movements which caused them concern for their safety. The troopers removed the operator from the vehicle and during a search of his immediate reaching area, they located a loaded, Smith and Wesson .40 cal. pistol with a defaced serial number. The operator, George Simpson, 30, of Brockton, did not have a license to possess a firearm. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately one pound of a substance believed to be marijuana, items consistent with the packaging and sale of marijuana, and more than $500.00 in cash.

Simpson was placed under arrest on the following charges:

Unlawful possession of a firearm (2nd Offense)
Firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime
Receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number
Possession of ammo without and FID card
Carrying a loaded firearm
Possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance

Simpson was also cited for committing a marked lanes violation and a stop sign violation. He was held on $10,000.00 bail pending his arraignment in Brockton District Court.
