Bristol Police investigating after officer-involved shooting injures suspect in police headquarters parking lot

Authorities are investigating after a shooting that took place on police department grounds.

According to Chief Kevin Lynch, the Bristol Police Department experienced an officer involved shooting at Bristol Police Department Headquarters, 395 Metacom Avenue, on Thursday at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Lynch stated that a violent incident unfolded in the South parking lot of the police station and the on-duty desk Sergeant acted in a life-saving measure to safeguard two younger female victims and himself.

Remarkably, the Sergeant, responding officers and victims were not seriously injured.

The department is investigating the incident in accordance with Rhode Island Attorney General protocols along with Rhode Island State Police and Attorney General’s investigative staff.

The suspect received immediate medical treatment and remains in custody. His name was not immediately released.

According to WJAR10, the suspect was naked and approached two women and made uncomfortable hand gestures at Colt State Park before getting in his vehicle, following the women, and crashing into their car in the police parking lot.
