Bristol County Pop Warner football player suffers medical emergency at practice

A Bristol County boy suffered an emergency at football practice on Thursday.

According to witnesses, a young football player participating in Taunton Pop Warner football practice at the former Coyle Cassidy High School went down and needed CPR before being medflighted to a Boston hospital.

Taunton Pop Warner issued a statement on social media concerning the incident.

“Taunton Pop Warner wants to thank our staff, volunteers, the Taunton Fire Department and Paramedics for their quick and brave actions during the incident at our practice on Thursday, August 24th. While we never want to have to experience an incident like this, the training and certifications that our coaches and staff members have taken to prepare for the season ensured that everyone had the right tools and plans in place. It’s situations like these that we prepare for and hope we never have to execute on but shows the extreme importance of these certifications. We understand that the athlete who suffered the emergency is doing well and is in great care of some of the best medical professionals. We ask that the public afford this family the privacy that they deserve as they focus on what’s most important at this moment.”

The victim’s father also issued a statement via social media.

“Update on Jack. He is stable and comfortable and will be in a medically induced coma for 3-4 days so that they can watch him closely. This guy is a fighter. No words can express our gratitude to everyone that has reached out and is praying for him. The Taunton Pop Warner family and Taunton community have shown just how amazing they truly are. We can’t thank everyone enough.

It has not been released exactly what happened to the boy. Fall River Reporter contacted the Taunton Police Department and has not yet received a response.
