Bristol County inmates shovel out non profits and seniors
According to the Bristol County Sheriff’s Department, inmate volunteers from the Dartmouth jail were out braving the elements in last week’s snow storm armed with shovels and rock salt to help those in need.
On Thursday and Friday morning, inmate volunteers, as part of the Community Work Program, were out across Bristol County shoveling for non profits and senior citizens.
One crew started Friday morning shoveling and salting the entrances and exits of the Humane Society & Shelter SouthCoast in Dartmouth. Also other crews shoveled sidewalks and more at senior citizen housing complexes in towns like Acushnet and Somerset.
Inmate volunteers also took part in a special program in partnership with the Dartmouth Council on Aging in which the COA provided a list of seniors in need and they shovel them out. Capt. Johnson and Officers Cousens and Almeida also braved the elements as they staffed the program.

God Bless these inmates and officers. I wish them the best. I wished someone would do that for me instead of me paying $80.00 of my monthly groceries just to do my sidewalks and walkways! Unfortunately, I can no longer do them
