Bristol County District Attorney releases identity of man killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-195 in Westport

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced a motor vehicle fatality yesterday afternoon on I-195 Westbound in Westport.

Massachusetts State Police received multiple 911 calls at approximately 3:20 p.m., reporting a serious motor vehicle crash, involving three vehicles, on I-195 Westbound near mile marker 16.2 in Westport. 

Upon arrival, police located a blue Audi in the right lane with front end damage and a white Chevy Silverado in the tree line with catastrophic damage.  A third vehicle, a green BMW had fled the scene. 

The single operator of the blue Audi was uninjured and remained on scene to speak to police.  The single operator of the Chevy Silverado, identified as 64-year-old Mario Carreiro of Fairhaven, was located outside of his vehicle and transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  Carreiro was pronounced deceased by hospital staff shortly after arrival.

The investigation into this matter is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with the Massachusetts State Police. 

No further information was released.
