Charges in connection to a fatal stabbing, which occurred inside a rooming house in Fall River Friday night, have been upgraded to Murder.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on Friday at 9:45 p.m., Fall River Police and paramedics were called to the rooming house at 234 Tripp Street and provided aid to the victim, who was later identified as 44-year-old Joseph Bump.

Bump was rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased just prior to 10:30 p.m.

42-year-old Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado was arrested on scene and was initially charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. An upgraded charge of Murder is being filed against him this afternoon.  Alvarado is being held in jail over the weekend and will be arraigned in Fall River District Court on Monday morning.

Both the defendant and the victim were residents of the rooming house when a fight broke out.
