Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth students come to aid of coach whose home was damaged by New Bedford fire

Parents of a local high school sports team expressed to us how proud they are of a group of teens who have come together to support their coach.

On September 4th, a house fire on Ashley Blvd in New Bedford displaced 3 individuals and caused interior damage to a single-family home. One of those individuals happens to be a beloved wrestling coach for Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth, Justin “Biff” Simmons.

When his players were notified of the damage, they got together, with help from parents, and created a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover costs for a temporary place to stay, purchase essential items and start the process of rebuilding.

Simmons has clearly had an impact on his team.

““Biff” has been a big impact on all of our lives, he has been in our corner from day 1 of meeting all of us. He is beyond a coach, he is our best friend, big brother and our biggest supporter. His dedication to us has had such a positive impact on our lives. He motivates us every day to be a better version of ourselves. Now it’s time for us to step up and be in his corner.”

The fundraiser has currently raised $3,100 and the gesture really touched Simmons.

“The support has been insane, and I can’t thank everyone enough. My wrestling team decided to take it upon themselves and create a GoFundMe. If you don’t know, we lived at our new house for 4 days before a fire damaged a lot of our belongings. Of course, everything helps, even a share. The texts, calls, check ins have been humbling. Thank you everyone who’s reached out or helped in any way.”
