Boy Scouts of America to change their name to “Scouting America”
IRVING, TEXAS – The Boy Scouts of America will be changing their name.
After 114 years, the Boy Scouts of America have decided to change their name to Scouting America. The change will officially go into effect on the 115th anniversary of the organization, which falls on February 8th, 2025.
The website for the organization is currently “scouting.org” and a pop-up message sharing the name change appears when you first visit the site.
The group has struggled through the years, with the pandemic limiting activities and in turn, losing members, but lawsuits forced the group to establish a bankruptcy plan to help manage operations through litigation.
In a lawsuit with The Girl Scouts of America, The Boy Scouts were sued after their 2017 landmark move to allow girls into their organization caused “marketplace confusion” and made it difficult for Girl Scouts to recruit new members.
But it was the sexual abuse allegations and subsequent class action lawsuit that sent the Boy Scouts into dangerous financial territory. Over 80,000 individuals have claimed they were sexually abused while scouting. Those lawsuits are still in the appeals process.

This is the first step to making scouting more inclusive. Defining scouting by gender forces scouts and scout masters into gender roles that may not represent what one is.
There should be a federal mandate requiring that each group of scouts have a POC, transgender, and LGBTQ+ scout master for the young people.
Scouting can transform young people. All should be allowed to experience it.
