Authorities searching for alleged armed and dangerous shooter in fatal Massachusetts Dollar Tree shooting, $5,000 reward offered

BROCKTON – Authorities continue to search for the man wanted in connection with a brazen, daytime shooting that left one man dead, and another man injured, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on January 31, 2023, Brockton Police received a 911 call reporting gunshots that were heard inside the Dollar Tree store located at 999 North Montello Street.

Upon arrival, Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. One man died as a result of his injuries. He has been identified as 38-year-old Dongbin Pyon of East Boston.

Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation began. As a result of the investigation, police sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Luis Soto who just turned 35. Soto was a former employee of the Dollar Tree store.

After the shooting, Soto fled the store scene and remains at large. His car has been located. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.

The United States Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Soto. Anyone with any information at all is urged to contact the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at 1-800-KAPTURE (800-527-8873), or the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-877-WANTED2 or (877-926-8332).
