Authorities release name of man who died from injuries at Brockton construction site

BROCKTON – Various agencies are investigating the workplace death of a man at the construction site of Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Just after noon today, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of a male employee who was trapped underneath a Bobcat Skid Steer loader at a construction site at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.

Upon arrival, emergency workers found a worker in an 8-foot-deep foundation trench trapped beneath the construction vehicle, which had fallen onto him. The victim and the operator of the Skid Steer were leveling out gravel in the trench when the incident occurred.

Extrication of the victim from the scene was labor intensive for first responders. The victim, identified as 63-year-old Roger Porter of East Sandwich, was determined to be dead at the scene. He was employed with LMA Services of Stoughton.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner accepted jurisdiction and will determine the cause and manner of death.
The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Brockton Police, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
