Authorities release name of 39-year-old Fall River man killed in fatal stabbing, suspect’s name also released
BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police are actively investigating the fatal stabbing of a Massachusetts man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
Saturday, at just before 6:15 p.m., Brockton Police received several 911 calls for a report of a stabbing that had occurred in the park located at the intersection of Crescent and Montello Streets.
Upon arrival, Brockton police officers located a male victim, and he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He has been identified as Edmar Goncalves, 39, of Fall River. Brockton Police identified the stabbing suspect on scene, and he was placed under arrest. He is identified as Johnny Richmond, 36.
Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office to begin the investigation. The investigation is active and ongoing, but preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence, according to Cruz.
