Police have released the name of a woman who died while swimming in Rhode Island on Thursday night.

According to police, on Thursday, at approximately 9:48 p.m., members of the Warwick Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of Conimicut Point Beach for a missing swimmer. Initial investigation revealed that a 28-year-old female from East Greenwich, RI, and her 40-year-old male friend had gone to the park a short time earlier and planned to go night swimming. While the male was setting up their beach blanket on the beach area at the east end of the park where the sand bar begins, the female entered into the water.

A short time after entering the water the female went under and did not surface. Boat units from the Warwick Police Department, Warwick Fire Department, and Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force, along with air support from the U. S. Coast Guard responded and after searching for approximately 20 minutes the swimmer was located on the north side of the sand bar close to the lighthouse.

Fire personnel attempted to revive the female and transported her to Kent Hospital where tragically she was pronounced dead.

The female has been identified as Nicolette Biber.

Warwick Police issued their condolences and warnings.

“Our deepest condolences are with the family of Nicolette. We cannot overstate the dangers of swimming at night, in the dark, and in unfamiliar areas where tides and high winds may make conditions unpredictable.”
