Atlantis Charter School to graduate first senior class

Atlantis Charter School is about to graduate it’s first senior class according to the school.

One of the first and largest charter schools in Massachusetts, the school announced it will graduate its first senior class this year. All 40 seniors in the Class of 2018 have been accepted into colleges. A graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the school’s brand-new waterfront campus at 991 Jefferson Street in Fall River.

“We are incredibly proud of the young men and women of the Class of 2018,” said Robert Beatty, executive director of Atlantis Charter School. “We committed to preparing these students as best we can for success in college and their future careers. We could not be happier knowing that every single one of our graduates this year is going to start college in the Fall.”

The Class of 2018 was the first freshman class to enter the new Atlantis Charter High School in the Fall of 2014. Atlantis added a grade per year, completing its high school expansion in September 2017. Members of the Class of 2018 will receive their high school diplomas at a commencement ceremony on the new 36-acre waterfront campus.

Matthew Kressy, founding director of the MIT Integrated Design & Management (IDM) master’s degree program, will deliver the keynote speech to graduates and guests. A successful entrepreneur and product developer, Kressy played an integral role in the development of Atlantis’s STEM Academy.

“It is an honor to have Dr. Kressy as our commencement speaker,” said Mike Lauro, associate executive director of Atlantis Charter School. “Dr. Kressy worked very closely with us to develop the STEM Academy, allowing us to duplicate MIT’s graduate integrated design management (IDM) lab so that our students can get an education second to none and be better prepared to enter college and the 21st century workforce. His commitment and dedication are indicative of the support we have received from all of our coalition partners as we launched our career academy program.”

Atlantis Charter School serves nearly 1,400 students in kindergarten through 12th grade across the SouthCoast region.
