Assonet man dies from injuries sustained in hit-and-run motorcycle collision

A local man has died while on vacation.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Kevin Oliveira of Assonet tragically passed away in Brazil on Thursday.
Oliveira was involved in a hit-and-run motorcycle collision while walking, requiring extensive medical treatment. Sadly, he eventually succumbed to his injuries approximately two weeks later.
The John Phillip Foundation, in which Oliveira was a part of, issued a statement on social media.
“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our dear friend, Kevin. He was not only a cherished member of our community, but a brother, uncle, and a true friend to so many. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched the lives of everyone who knew him. As a business owner and member of our small town and community, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and love. Kevin had a unique way of making everyone feel seen and valued, he brought so much laughter and joy, and his presence will be deeply missed by all of us. Today, we honor his life, and our hearts are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin. You will always be remembered.”
The GoFundMe has raised over $60,000 to bring Oliveira back home from Brazil.
