All Massachusetts House of Representatives staff members to see pay bump next month

All staff members in the House of Representatives will see pay bumps of at least 6 percent starting next month, House Speaker Ronald Mariano said in a branch-wide email Wednesday afternoon.
The raises apply to the House’s nearly 500 employees, according to the speaker’s office. It comes at a total cost of around $2.8 million, the speaker said, adding that the adjustments are covered by existing appropriations.
“If, after receiving the minimum 6% salary adjustment, an employee is still not at their appropriate compensation rate within their salary range based on the employee’s experience and equity, that employee will receive an additional adjustment,” Mariano wrote. “As a result, most employees will receive an adjustment that is greater than 6% — the overall average being 8.75% — in order to account for any additional House experience employees may have accrued since November 2022.”
A self-evaluation under the Mass. Equal Pay Act completed in November of 2022 resulted in a new “classification and compensation plan” for House staff aimed at salary equity. The branch’s MEPA plan resulted in the House’s first-ever minimum base salaries and, at the time, House employees saw raises of at least 8 percent.
The speaker on Wednesday directed employees to keep an eye on their inboxes this week for information about their latest salary changes. The raises take effect June 3.
“These adjustments reflect our recognition of your hard work and commitment to serving the House and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” Mariano said in his email to aides.

They got a nice pay hike during Covid too. 6 percent, I believe. When is the last time you got a raise?

Our elected officials work hard to keep Massachusetts on the right side of history.
We lead the nation in schools, the percentage of residents with college and advanced degrees, have the best hospitals, and have incredibly forward-thinking leaders like Sen. Warren, Gov. Healy, Ayana Presley, and Ms. Fernandes Anderson.
Plus, with the windfall from the new millionaires tax, the wealthy are beginning to pay their fair share, although the threshold needs to be lowered considerably. We also have free college and housing loans and grants for marginalized communities and have welcomed newly arrived Americans with open arms.
Our leaders are moving us forward. I’m proud they’re getting a raise.

Why would you give these people a raise
They do not have experience they never put a full week of work Healy is out of the state Speaker of the house only job is making sure the Fore River Bridge does not get stuck
The people should only be allowed one four year term let’s see if they can the HERO ACT PASSED
