According to Gallup, Donald Trump, Michelle Obama, most admired man and woman
Gallup has announced their yearly most admired man and woman of the year.
President Donald Trump, who last year tied former President Barack Obama, took home the first-place honors for most admired man, ending Obama’s 12-year run.
Michelle Obama took home most admired woman for the third consecutive year.
Gallup asks Americans to name, without prompting, which man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most. The current president and first lady are typically near the top of the list.
While Trump has a high disapproval rate of 61%, Republicans came out strong for him in the poll while Democrats split their choices.
According to Gallup, 48% of Republicans named Trump this year, with no other public figure receiving more than 2% of Republicans’ votes. Showing how dispersed their vote was, Obama was the top choice for Democrats, at 32% with President-elect Joe Biden (13%) also commonly named among Democrats. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, was named by 5% of Democrats but only 1% of Republicans. Independents were evenly split between Trump (11%) and Obama (11%), with 3% picking Biden and 2% Fauci.
Trump garnered 18% of the vote overall with Obama seeing 15% and Biden grabbing 6%.
In this year’s poll, 10% of Americans picked Michelle Obama as most admired woman, Kamala Harris saw 6%, and first lady Melania Trump received 4%. Oprah Winfrey got 3%.
Voting went across party lines for the women as well as Melania Trump led among Republicans at 8%, with Amy Coney Barrett at 4% and Nikki Haley at 4%. Democrats named Michelle Obama at 17%, Harris at 16%, and 5% for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Obama led independents (11%), with Trump second at 4%.
