Massachusetts State Police release details concerning fatal fiery crash on Route 24
A driver has died after a local fiery highway crash on Tuesday.
According to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, shortly before 1:00 p.m., a vehicle struck an unoccupied truck in the breakdown lane belonging to a nearby work crew on Route 24 south in Berkley (mile marker 13.8). The operator of the vehicle succumbed to their injuries as a result of the crash.
Troopers assigned to the Middleboro Barracks, the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit responded to the scene.
For the safety of motorists and first responders, MassDOT officials closed all travel lanes during the investigation.
At this time, the left lane is open for travel around the primary crash scene.
The matter remains under investigation by the State Police.
