DCYF reports death of 4 month old child due to maltreatment
The Department of Children, Youth & Families is disclosing the death of a four-month-old male child from Middletown.
The family had prior DCYF involvement, but the child and his legal guardian did not.
The child died on June 10, 2019. The Department initiated an investigation, and through this investigation, DCYF has confirmed that the child’s death was a result of maltreatment.
Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report. Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.
Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect.
