Man accused of murdering Fall River nephew Omil Padilla-Corsino in New Bedford pleads not guilty, held without bail
A man was arraigned Tuesday in Fall River Superior Court concerning the murder of his Fall River relative.
According to Jennifer Sowa of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, in the early afternoon on August 24th, New Bedford Police were dispatched to 68 South Street. When police arrived, they discovered 23-year-old Omil Padilla-Corsino suffering from life threatening stab wounds.
Padilla-Corsino was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Records show that Padilla-Corsino lived in Fall River.
Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with Detectives from the New Bedford Police Department identified Padilla-Corsino’s uncle as a suspect, 42-year-old Juan Padilla-Santana of Puerto Rico, and charged him with murder.
Through the investigation, police learned that the stabbing followed an argument amongst family members inside of 68 South Street.
Padilla-Santana pled not guilty Tuesday and was held without bail pending the results of a dangerousness hearing.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser to pay for funeral services, Padilla-Corsino was engaged to be married, and his fiancée was due to have their child at the time of his death.
Padilla-Santana’s next scheduled court appearance is the dangerousness hearing on January 22nd.
