36-year-old Fairhaven man arraigned in Fall River court concerning fatal hit-and-run that killed 29-year-old Alexis Alvarez
A 36-year-old Fairhaven man was arraigned Friday in Fall River Superior Court in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident which occurred in Fairhaven this past summer.
Ryan Almeida pled not guilty on charges of Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury & Death, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Motor Vehicle Homicide by Reckless Operation.
Police were initially called to Main Street, near the Riverside Cemetery on August 4th for reports of a crash involving a pickup truck and a moped. The moped driver, later identified as Alexis Alvarez, 29, of Brockton, was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital and later pronounced deceased.
According to CBS Boston, both drivers “had become engaged in what could be characterized as a road rage episode” and that both drivers were driving on the wrong side of the road at times. Officers later found Almeida’s truck parked outside of his girlfriend’s house with crash damage and license plates removed.
Almeida’s bail was set at $25,000 cash.
His next court appearance is a pre-trial conference scheduled for March 18th.
