73-year-old Dartmouth woman dies after vehicle versus pedestrian collision
DARTMOUTH, MA – A local woman is dead after a collision that took place on Tuesday.
According to police, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Dartmouth Police officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Bridge Street and Water Street after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers found that a 73-year-old Dartmouth woman had been struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk. Fire and rescue arrived shortly after and rendered aid. She was then transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries where she was later pronounced deceased.
The operator of the vehicle remained on scene during the entirety of the call. It appears that solar glare may have contributed to the accident, while speed was not determined to be a factor.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit, the Dartmouth Police Detective Division, and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to Bristol County D.A.’s Office.
