22-year-old Newport man sentenced in death of 22-year-old man with Westport and Fall River ties

A local man was sentenced Wednesday concerning the death of a 22-year-old man with Westport and Fall River ties.

According to court records, 22-year-old Tyrese Poulsen of Newport pled Nolo Contendere to Manslaughter and was sentenced to 30 years with credit for time served.

Newport Police previously stated that just after midnight on May 30th, 2021, Newport Police responded to an incident in the area of Thames Street and Lee Avenue.

Officers located Maximus Julian of Little Compton suffering from a stab wound to his neck along with another male who suffered a stab wound to his leg.

Both men were ultimately transported to Rhode Island hospital.

Tragically, 22-year-old Maximus Julian succumbed to his injuries and passed away on June 1, 2021.

The investigation determined a party had taken place at 548 Thames Street during which a physical fight took place involving Julian and two other men who were identified as Jamaal Reid and Tyrese Poulsen.

As a result of the investigation by the Newport Police Department, an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was obtained for Poulsen. An Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was obtained for Jamaal Reid for Harboring a Criminal and Disorderly Conduct.

Reid’s case has yet to conclude.
