Police in Massachusetts say newborn left abandoned outside of apartment building
A new baby was left abandoned outside in Massachusetts, authorities say.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to the 1000 block of Worthington Street in Springfield for an immediate assist. Springfield Emergency Communications received a 9-1-1 call stating that someone left a baby outside their apartment building.
The baby boy appeared to be a few weeks old and was transported to Baystate to be evaluated. A Doctor at Baystate stated the baby is in stable condition.
If you have any information on this baby, please call the Special Victims Unit at 413-787-6352.
The Springfield Police Department would also like to remind everyone about Massachusetts’ Safe Haven Law which allows parents to legally surrender newborns at hospitals, police departments and fire departments without facing any criminal prosecution.
If you are a new parent and are considering surrendering your child, please contact 1-877-796-HOPE (4673) or 1-888-510-BABY (2229) for support.
