New Bedford 14-year-old loses courageous battle with rare and aggressive form of cancer, services and fundraiser announced

A local teen has died after a courageous battle.

14-year-old Ashlin Marie Costa of New Bedford passed away on Wednesday in Boston Children’s Hospital after being diagnosed in January with a very rare and very aggressive form of colon cancer.

Ashlin recently graduated from Saint Joseph’s School in Fairhaven.

A fundraiser for her 14th birthday was held in March to help pay for her treatments.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for funeral expenses with the remaining funds going to Ashlin’s parents who have not been working since she was diagnosed.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 8AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
