Crash leads to one man being transported to New Bedford trauma center after firefighters use jaws of life
A local fire department responded two to crashes on Bedford Street (Route 18) in about a 12-hour span.
According to the Lakeville Fire Department, the first accident occurred around midnight on Monday near Ocean Spray and involved 2 vehicles. Fortunately, there were no significant injuries or need for transportation to the hospital.
The second crash occurred just after noon Tuesday at the intersection of Kenneth Welch Drive and Bedford Street.
Firefighters extricated one patient from a vehicle using hydraulic tools (aka jaws of life).
The trapped occupant was freed from the vehicle and on the way to the hospital in less the 20 minutes of the first arriving firefighters.
The adult male was transported to St Luke’s Hospital (nearest trauma center) with injuries believed to be not life threatening.
The operator of the second vehicle was transported to Morton Hospital with minor injuries by an ambulance from Middleborough.
