EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins has announced that Sgt. Dennis Andre and Officer Matthew Monteiro were honored with a Lifesaving Award Monday night for their efforts in helping to save a man’s life in April.

At Monday’s Select Board meeting, Sgt. Andre and Officer Monteiro were recognized and presented with a Lifesaving Award by Chief Jenkins, Deputy Chief Michael McLaughlin and Select Board members David Sheedy, Carole Julius and Peter Spagone Jr. Also in attendance was Larry Davidson, whose life was saved by the officers, and his wife Florence, as well as family, friends and other police officers.

“To say that I am proud of these officers is an understatement,” said Chief Jenkins. “They did an excellent job performing the proper emergency procedures in a fast-paced manner. That requires an immense amount of bravery and professionalism, we are very lucky to have them as part of the EBPD.”

On April 2, at 12:52 a.m., East Bridgewater Police dispatch received a 911 call from a resident stating that her husband, who has heart issues, was unconscious and unresponsive. Sgt. Andre and Officer Monteiro were dispatched to the residence.

Upon arrival, they were directed toward Larry Davidson, who was unresponsive and was not breathing. The officers began CPR and administered a shock via a defibrillator. Davidson began breathing again as paramedics arrived and continued critical care and transport to the hospital. Davidson a retired East Bridgewater Police Sergeant.
