Coast Guard suspends search for missing 20-year-old swimmer off Newport, Rhode Island
It appears that a local swimmer is likely deceased after the search for him has been suspended.
According to United States Coast Guard Northeast, Sunday at approximately 6:00 p.m., a 20-year-old swimmer went missing near Newport, RI.
The man went missing near Brenton Point Park off of Ocean Drive in the rocky area called 12 O’ Clock High.
Coast Guard units searching for the swimmer included STA Point Judith, STA Castle Hill, CGC Maurice Jester, & Air Station Cape Cod. Newport Police also aided in the effort.
After searching 122 sq. nautical miles, it was announced at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday that the search was suspended, pending further developments.
The name of the swimmer has not been released.
