Active-duty Massachusetts State Police Trooper dies suddenly
Massachusetts State Police have announced the passing of active-duty Massachusetts State Trooper Steven J. Culver. He was 53 years old.
Culver reportedly died due to a medical event.
Trooper Culver was most recently assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section with previous assignments including the K-9 Unit and the Marine Unit. Trooper Culver was a member of the 79th Recruit Training Troop and served the people of the Commonwealth for 18 years after graduating from the State Police Academy in September of 2006.
Culver was a Reserve Police Officer with the Yarmouth Police from 2003 until joining the State Police.
Culver leaves behind children, a grandchild, and other family.
Among Culver’s accomplishments was an incident released through a letter Thursday by Yarmouth PD.
“I received a call today from a resident of Highbank Road, South Yarmouth. The resident reported the following: on 3/20/04 at approximately 2200 hours, while trying to walk to his home from his vehicle, fell in his driveway and could not get up. (The resident has a medical problem which has caused partial paralysis in his legs).
“The resident states he tried to use his cell phone but could not get a connection. He states he was forced to lie in a puddle in the pouring, freezing rain for approximately 45 minutes. He states he was just about to give up hope when he observed a Yarmouth police vehicle slow and then stop in front of his home.
“He states two Yarmouth officers, Officer Antonovitch and R/O Culver, exited their vehicle and came to his aid. They called Yarmouth rescue who helped Officers Antonovitch and Culver carry him into his home, place him in bed, removed his wet clothes and covered him with warm blankets.
“This resident wanted the Yarmouth Police Department to know that he is very grateful to the two officers who saved his life. He is convinced he would have died from exposure.”

I’m so sorry to hear of Officer Culver’s passing. He made such a positive lasting impression on me (while giving me a warning a few weeks ago). I thought to myself what a kind, considerate and professional human being. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers.

It’s always so sad to lose a loved one. But when so young & unexpected, it makes it harder to bear.
May Trooper Culver find rest in our Savior’s glorious presence. And may Jesus bring his heartbroken family His Comfort & Peace, that surpasses all our understanding, as He carries them through, for as long as they need.💜
Thank your for your service to your communities, Trooper Culver.🇺🇸
