Closed since COVID, dining room at Somerset Sonic set to reopen next month

The dining room at the Sonic Drive-in located at 707 Grand Army Highway in Somerset is getting ready to open to guests for the first time since they closed the inside back in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.

Speaking with Dustin DeBoer, the Director of Operations for the Somerset Sonic location, Fall River Reporter has learned that the dining room is currently going through a refresh with updated menu boards and signage, some of which have been delayed since the start of 2024.

DeBoer said that there were many factors that contributed to the dining room staying closed, including staffing and productivity. The positive side was they were able to keep the drive-thru and car park stations moving quickly for drive up guests. DeBoer said they felt “terrible” for customers who wanted to come inside to eat, including families with children and senior citizens, especially their regulars.

DeBoer shared that less than ten percent of all Sonic locations nationwide have a dining room, but they believe it’s an important part of their restaurant.

“We’re excited to get it back open again.”

The dining room is expected to reopen in March.
