Massachusetts police officer burned while saving man’s life in house fire

A Massachusetts police officer is being labeled a hero after recently saving a man’s life.

According to Police Chief Dana Flynn, on January 25, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Plymouth Officer Dylan Oxsen responded to a fully engulfed house fire in West Plymouth.

Upon arrival, Oxsen could hear a man crying for help. He entered the house and told the man to keep yelling because he was making his way through heavy smoke, and unable to see.

Through the heavy smoke, Oxsen made his way to the kitchen, which was engulfed in flames. He was able to locate the man and drag him outside, saving the man’s life.

Flynn stated that during the rescue, Oxsen suffered burns to his left hand.

The Chief issued the following statement.

“Your actions are a credit to this Police Department and the residents that you serve. You should be proud of this incredible accomplishment. In accordance with Policy & Procedure 4.28, you are awarded and are authorized to wear the Life-Saving Award.”
