Fall River man sentenced to prison after victim stabbed/slashed 23 times, critically injured

A Fall River, MA and Tiverton, RI man has been sentenced in Superior Court concerning a near fatal stabbing that took place in the city.

According to court records, 27-year-old Chance Costa pled guilty to Armed Assault to Murder, Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle, and Assault & Battery on 60+/Disabled With Injury.

He was sentenced to not less than 16 Years to not more than 18 Years with credit of 830 days served.

As a result of an investigation conducted by Fall River Police, Costa became a suspect in a stabbing on September 26th, 2021, in the 1100 block of Plymouth Avenue.

Detectives assigned to the Major Crime Division were able to locate Costa after a foot chase.

Costa was captured in the area of Jefferson and McGee Streets.

The victim suffered nearly 2 dozen stab wounds to his torso/arm and was in critical condition before eventually making a miraculous recovery.

He and other witnesses have stated that he was walking with a woman believed to be Costa’s ex-girlfriend when he was attacked by Costa ambush style.
