22-year-old woman dies from early morning shooting, police looking for Brockton man in her murder
BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police are investigating the overnight shooting of a woman, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
At approximately 12:22 a.m. Friday, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of a shooting outside 17 Nason Street. Upon arrival at the address, police located a female victim inside a parked motor vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot. The victim was pronounced dead on scene. She has been identified as 22-year-old Stephanie Beatty of Norwich, Connecticut.
Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and began the investigation. As a result, detectives sought and obtained an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Gelson Fernandes of Brockton, charging him with Homicide. The investigation is active and ongoing by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police.
Friends of Beatty have vowed that they will get her justice.
Cruz stated that the victim and Fernandes were previously acquainted.
