Name released of 34-year-old woman killed in bicycle versus pickup truck crash in Newport
The name of a local woman killed in a bicycle versus truck crash has been released.
Just after 7:45 a.m., a call came into dispatch Wednesday for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Admiral Kalbfus Road and Hillside Avenue in Newport.
Moments later, CPR was being performed by Newport Police on the victim.
According to Newport Patch, a 53-year-old South Attleboro man turned left in his pickup truck onto Hillside Avenue and hit 34-year-old Kayla Watson of Middletown as she passed by on her electric bike.
Watson was transported to Newport Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The pickup truck driver was cited and charged with obedience to devices (red light) and due care by drivers.
Those who knew Watson are understandably dealing with the sudden and tragic loss of someone so young.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
