Fall River will see at least one new city councilor, one new school committee member; three to face off for mayor

With the deadline passing, here are the candidates that have returned nomination papers for city council, mayor, and school committee in the City of Fall River.

Candidates have until July 18 to file certified nomination papers.

The race for mayor appears to be headed to a preliminary election where the two winners will face off in the municipal election.

The Fall River City Council will see at least one new member as Leo Pelletier will not be running for re-election. If one of the 19 current candidates do not get the number of signatures needed certified by the elections office or have not filed certified nomination papers with the city clerk by July 18, there will be no preliminary election for City Council.

The School Committee will also see at least one new member with current committee member Paul Hart running for city council. There will not be a preliminary election for School Committee as there were not enough candidates.

The Municipal Preliminary Election will take place on September 19 with the Municipal Election scheduled for November 7.
