Officials report bear sightings in several communities including Fall River, Freetown, Taunton

Authorities are warning the public due to multiple bear sightings from northern to southern Massachusetts. Including Fall River.

Fall River Police announced that they are aware of multiple black bear sightings in the north end of the city.

The Massachusetts Environmental Police are working to locate and relocate the bear as quickly and safely as possible. Residents are asked to avoid the 5000 block of North Main Street if possible.

Residents in the area are asked not to leave any small pets unattended, and bring in any dog or cat food you may have outside.

On Saturday, Freetown officials also stated that they received bear sightings.

According to Taunton Police, over the past couple of weeks there has been a black bear roaming about Norfolk and Bristol Counties. There have been recent sightings around Taunton.

Officials recommend that if you see a black bear, do not attempt to get closer to it or interact with it. Most black bears are wary of humans, but if you find yourself outside when one approaches, clap your hands and talk loudly while slowly moving away.

To discourage the bear from making a habitat of your backyard, put away pet food and bird feeders and ensure trash cans are secure.
