They say no call is routine and that certainly was the case late last night in Fall River.
According to police, at approximately 11:30 p.m. last night, officers responded to the area of Kilburn Street and Dwelly Street for a report of shots fired.
During his canvass of the area, Officer Zachary Oliveira observed a backpack on the ground. Shortly thereafter, he encountered a male looking through the back seat of a vehicle.
Through his investigation, Officer Oliveira discovered that the man had broken into the vehicle, and was in the process of taking several items which were located in his pockets.
40-year-old Jacob Souza of Fall River was arrested and charged with Breaking & Entering in a Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime for a Felony, Possession of a Class B Drug, Possession of a Class E Drug, and Receiving Stolen Property.
It was later determined that a vehicle had backfired in the area causing the loud bang, often mistaken for gun shots.
