Massachusetts State Police investigating fatal head-on crash on Route 495 that killed 21-year-old
An early morning crash has claimed the life of a Massachusetts man Friday.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 3:09 p.m., Troopers from the State Police-Newbury Barracks received multiple calls of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Route 495. Shortly after the barracks received calls stating that the vehicle had crashed head-on with a tractor trailer in the area of Exit 111. Troopers arrived on scene and requested EMS and fire. Haverhill Fire Department and Trinity Ambulance were dispatched.
The 21-year-old operator of a 2019 Honda HRV, Sebastian Hidalgo of Haverhill, was determined to be deceased at the scene The vehicle Hidalgo collided with was a 2022 Kenworth tractor trailer operated by a 59-year-old male from Maine. The TT operator had no apparent injuries. The truck was leaking fuel from the saddle tanks. All southbound lanes at the scene were shut down for approximately three hours and traffic was diverted to Broad Street in Merrimac for investigative and clean up purposes.
The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
